Kiholo Kai

Kirk Hubbard is the President & Brand Director of Kiholo Kai, a premium Hawaiian apparel brand, founded in 2017. Kiholo Kai was created to serve a discerning customer who appreciates our island stories, made in Hawaii tailoring, quality materials & attention to detail. Their motto of “Fine Hawaiian Tailoring” speaks volumes & is a promise they intend to deliver.

After 30 years with Reyn Spooner, with his last position there as President & CEO, Hubbard launched Kiholo Kai as his answer to the classical aloha shirt. “The aloha shirt was always a part of my life,” he says. “In the earlier days, I wore them as a child during summer, surf versions as a teenager, & watched my father wear the classic downtown shirts.” My first job was working with a prestigious firm in the heart of Honolulu. It was at that time I really started to appreciate aloha shirts and began to develop a real affinity for the different types.

Named after Kiholo Bay on the Big Island, his brand has given him the opportunity to work in the business at a grass roots level. “It’s fun to be hands on on all parts of the business, especially the designing and retailing” he says.

Kiholo Kai’s answer to the aloha shirt is the further development of the ’60’s style that blended classic American sportwear with the Hawaiian lifestyle. “We go back to the basics of a fine aloha shirt, using a vintage formula of high-quality single-needle tailoring done in Hawaii, the finest quality cotton based fabrications, classic print stores from our island lifestyle that’s wearable internationally and a subtleness in style,” he says.
