Honoring Kona Residents, Gwen and Evan Olins owners of Flamingos and Hula Heaven

In 2022, the first award was presented to Kona residents, Gwen and Evan Olins for their life-long commitment to the collection and cataloging of Aloha wear and Hawaiiana

The Aloha Shirt Festival and Fashion Week Hawai‘i presented by the Nā‘ālehu Theatre, is being held at the Outrigger Kona Resort and Spa from Thursday, October 13th to Saturday, October 15th 2022 from 10am to 10pm daily.

We invite you to explore the history, artistry, and production of Hawai‘i’s enduring fashion statement, the Aloha Shirt. This exhibition of over sixty objects, including original textile artwork, production sketches and swatches, advertisements, and vintage shirts tells the story of an industry that has left an indelible mark on fashion in the United States and the world.

The exhibition includes selections from private collections including those of Kona residents, Gwen and Evan Olins for their life-long commitment to the collection and cataloging of Aloha wear and Hawaiiana. In addition the Aloha Shirt Festival will present a special award to Gwen and Even Olins for their doing more than 40 years of Aloha wear business in Kona, Hawai’i.

The exhibit draws from their private collection of material along with those of Sylvia Kop of Hula Supply Center and provides visitors the opportunity to view Aloha shirts from the designer’s perspective, as well as excellent vintage examples of the finished product.
